One more step!

¡Un pasito más! 

Antes de llegar a Estados Unidos me esperan unos meses de trámites, o lo que es lo mismo; papeles, papeles y más papeles. Es un proceso lento, para que os hagáis una idea y para que os sirva de ayuda a todos aquell@s que os estéis planteando vivir esta experiencia, los pasos a seguir son los siguientes:

1.    Una vez contactas con la agencia, en mi caso au pair care, te llaman para hacerte una entrevista telefónica

2.    A continuación, debes rellenar tu perfil online (aupair room). Además de incluir todos tus datos personales, profesionales y académicos, debes redactar una carta de presentación dirigida a la família así como un vídeo de presentación. Serán las familias las que accederán a tu perfil y en caso de que éste les interese, contactarán contigo. Por lo tanto, el primer contacto lo iniciará la familia pero la elección será mutua (puedes descartar aquellas familias que no te interesen). PERO, no puedes elegir destino, este dependerá de dónde resida tu familia de acogida.

3.    La agencia te envía una serie de documentos que debes rellenar:

-       Una referencia personal.

-       Dos referencias laborales (relacionadas con niños).

-       Historial médico.

-       Copia del permiso de conducir y del pasaporte.

-       Certificado de antecedentes penales.

-       Certificado académico.

-       Contrato y términos/condiciones.

4.    El siguiente paso será realizar una entrevista (en inglés) en tu ciudad con un representante de la agencia. Y, más adelante, la solicitud del visado en la embajada de Estados Unidos en España que se encuentra en Madrid.

5.    Por último, una vez que abran tu perfil online (antes de ir a Madrid a solicitar el visado) podrás empezar el proceso de seleccionar una familia con la que convivirás un año. La parte más complicada de este largo proceso.

Bueno, pues yo me encuentro en el ecuador del proceso. En dos semanas tengo cita en Barcelona para realizar la entrevista personal con el representante de aupaircare. Así que aunque me encuentro a mitad de camino, lo importante es que ya queda menos!

One more step!

Before I get the US I’ll have to do lots of application forms, interviews,… It is not easy and fast, look the timetable below if you are thinking about to become an au pair in the US:

1.    The first thing you should do is to get a company who will help you. The company I’ve chosen is www.aupaircare.com. They will contact you with a telephone call and will make you different questions, some of them in your mother tongue and some of them in English.

2.    Then, you will have to complete your profile on a website, it is called your au pair room. It will be your reference (personal, academic and professional details). I mean, the host families will check it and if they like it, they’ll contact you.

You also must post a video and a letter to introduce yourself  to the host families.

So remember, the first contact will be made by the host family but the match will be made if both (host family and you) agree. For example: One host family contact you but you don’t like them. Don’t worry, you can say NO.

If you are dreaming about to live in a city, you may have to change your mind because you cannot choose the city, it will depend where your host family lives.

3.    The company will send you a lot of documents that you will have to complete:

- Personal Reference

- 2 childcare Reference

- Physician verified medical history

- Passport (photocopy)

- Driving licence (photocopy)

- Certificate of your studies

- Agreement and terms

4. The next step will be an interview (in English) in your home city. You will meet there someone from the company. A few weeks or one month later, you’ll have to go to the embassy of the US in your country because you need a VISA to live in the US for a year.

The last thing is the most complicated: to choose a family. When the company activates your profile online you will be ready to choose the perfect family for you. Take care! You are gonna spend a year with them!

Well, I’m in the middle of this loooooong process. In two weeks I will have an appointment to do the interview (4.1 step). I’m happy! My American experience is closer!
